Frequently Asked Questions
BB3 Workshop
What is the content of the BB3 Workshop?
What does an ideal team look like?
How does it work?
To get the most out of your experience, participants come in teams (2-4 people) so you can practice the BB3 method on a challenging conflict you are actively involved in and know well beyond the headlines. It should be a political conflict that’s external to your organization.
This will be a highly participatory and interactive experience, with many group exercises and team breakouts. We ask that everyone stay present and keep your video on throughout the workshop. When people drop in and out, it detracts from everyone’s experience. We want to maximize our ability to learn together.
What is the content of the BB3 Workshop?
The BB3 Workshop is an introduction to the mindset of Possibilism and the method of BB3. You will learn the 9 practices that underpin the mindset and methods through brief presentations, group exercises, and plenary discussions.
The BB3 workshop will provide you with:
-
Fresh ideas you can apply to your challenging conflict
-
Practical tools and strategies to approach impossible conflicts that will help you better influence pivotal decisions and key decision-makers
-
A deeper capacity to work with your team and wider network to accomplish more together
Who is the BB3 Workshop for?
Teams working on seemingly impossible conflicts such as war, climate change, and other existential threats that, if transformed, would greatly benefit the common good. Teams can consist of colleagues, partners, and network members that you will continue to work with after the workshop.
What does an ideal team look like?
As you recruit your team, here are several things to consider that contribute to success both during and after the workshop:
-
Committed Partners. Teams work best when they are familiar with each other and committed to working together on the conflict after the workshop
-
Strong Understanding. It helps to include those who have a strong understanding of the conflict that goes beyond the headlines
-
Diverse Perspectives. Consider including team members who come from different vantage points on the conflict
-
No Less than 3, No More than 4. Ideally participants will bring at least two other people to partner with them. A maximum of 4 people allows each person enough time to contribute their voice in breakout discussions
-
Larger Teams Can Divide into Smaller Groups. If a larger team splits into smaller groups, we recommend each group focus on different aspects of the conflict
What is the time commitment?
The BB3 Workshop is seven hours over two days (3.5hrs per day), from 10:00am-1:30pm US Eastern Time.
You should expect to spend about 90 minutes outside of the workshop: 45 minutes to prepare for the workshop and coordinate with your team, 30 minutes of pre-work for Day 2, and 10 minutes to fill out a post-workshop survey.
What is the cost of the BB3 Workshop?
Based on a similar version of the workshop that we offer through Harvard University’s Program on Negotiation, the value of the BB3 workshop is $1497.
In order to make the workshop available for committed teams working on the world’s most intractable conflicts, we don’t require payment.
In the spirit of generosity, someone who came before you made a gift that made this next workshop possible. We are working on raising funds to continue making the workshops available to others.
At the end of the session, you will be offered a chance to pay-it-forward towards the tuition of a future participant and continue the circle of giving. We welcome gifts at any level, however small.
How can I "pay-it-forward"?
You’ll be invited to donate via email with a web link where you can make a gift. That gift will be applied towards the tuition of a future participant.
If a financial contribution is not possible at this time, there are many other ways to contribute. Opportunities will include offering feedback, in-kind donations, peer-to-peer support and sharing your own stories for our learning. We expect that new ways to give back to the community will be available as our community of BB3 practitioners grows.
